        OUT OF AFRICA

‘Known as much for her fearless nature as her creativity and style, Isak Dinesen - or Karen Blixen as she is known to many of her readers - makes a perfect inspiration for a Dea Kudibal collection. Her ability to carve her own identity, whether in the middle of Africa or living on the Danish coast, shows a strong will that was matched equally by her talent.’

        Summer Pre Fall 25

Karen Blixen’s life was one of uncompromising courage, formidable will and extraordinary talent. A beacon of female empowerment, she was just as at home on her ranch in Kenya as she was in her beautiful home north of Copenhagen. This strength of character, combined with a true sense of style, provides the touchstone to a collection that appeals to confident, creative and individual women.

Reflecting the arid palette of her African home, the palette for Summer 25 places burnt red and vivid sky blue against natural sand, bone white and black. Dea Kudibal’s signature prints mix the artistic charm of a hand-painted tree of flowers, a bold ikat-inspired design and a delicate placement print depicting maps and wildlife whilst more graphic patterns are inspired by native basketwork. Fabrics are perfect for hot days and warm evenings: light cotton voile, trimmed with cut-out lace in a kaftan or long shirt with rope belt are stylish yet easy whilst white denim made into cropped pants or button-up dress with flounced sleeves mixes utility with femininity. Elsewhere a compact twill in savannah beige has a retro 70s vibe as a tie-belt safari dress or short sleeved shirt/jacket. Evenings have a touch of relaxed glamour in a floaty printed georgette dress with cut out shoulders or more high octane in a brightly coloured one sleeve top with oversized frill across one shoulder. Should the air chill as the sun goes down, pull on a pointelle lacy knit that offers a glimpse of sun-kissed skin with an exposed collarbone.

As summer fades into autumn, the collection runs seamlessly into the Pre-Fall delivery with the focus falling on Karen Blixen’s life back in Denmark. The colours reflect the change of location with earthy tones of mushroom and pine green mixed with shades of deep midnight and fresh Scandinavian blue. Fabrics become a little heavier with dark indigo denim in a flared skirt with jeans pockets or, enticingly, an open back jacket tied with bows. Tailoring has a cool, masculine edge with relaxed fit double-breasted blazers worn with old school pleated pants in a navy window pane check whilst the beauty of a garden appears in embroidered flowers and butterflies growing up the side of a pair of twill pants. Striped shirting softens its attitude in a long button through dress or in a shirt with bow fastenings at the cuffs. The high summer mix of voile and lace returns but this time reworked as a linen dress with a delicate insert at the yoke and tied in with a raffia buckle belt. The same nod to handicraft also appears on a knitted sweater and cardigan, both adorned with hand-embroidered flowers. After all, creativity and individuality are at the very centre of the collection and in the heart of the Dea Kudibal woman.
